Since we have been riding up North since December and locally in January on our own "pirate" trails it was time to go looking for a new adventure before any serious riding up North in Feburary. Armed with a chance to get away for a few days I decided to bring a car back from Florida and see what the weather was like down south. Florida has had a cool winter this year and we were greated with overcast and drizzle after flying from Buffalo to Daytona Beach. Things are starting to gear up down there for the Big Daytona Nascar race which is right beside the airport. They are already hanging banners for the March Supercross on the Stadium. Anyway, we picked up the car and were hoping to have a "spirited" drive through some of the mountains on the way home. although the Interstates were wet but driveable all the way home, most of the regular roads were still hardly passable as the locals waited for the snow to melt from a week ago (seems they don't own snow plows down there). I had not expected to have any snow problems until we reached PA or NY. Had we been driving a pickup with snows we could have got around fine but in a low sports car with summer performance tires--not a chance so we had to see the countryside from the Thruways. Georgia, South and North Carolina, Tennessee,Virginia and West Virginia all had more snow than Tillsonburg. Who would have thought?
So we now have a nice 2004 Honda S2000 available for sale ($19,999 cdn) fresh from Florida. Only 80,000 kms and very
fun to drive.

Work is done and time to play but the snow up north is still a little thin so we dug out some of the vintage iron that would not cost so much when we smashed them off the rocks hill climbing on the power lines. Good news is that nothing got wrecked and the rain stayed away until Boxing Day. Trails were still mostly closed at Christmas but there was some awesome Power line running if you could stay off the rocks. |
Winter started Dec. 13, 2009.
Forget Port Dover on the 13th. We needed some action NOW and went to find it. Tillsonburg was warm and snowless but rumor had it that Haliburton just got a dumping and we went to find out for ourselves. Word got out and our load of two new 2010 Polarises turned into 2 plus 6 customers that also wanted in on the action. We hauled 4 sleds plus a 60" snowblower to deliver on the way with the other 4 meeting us at the Haliburton Forest. Lets just say that it was winter there for sure! Lakes were water but the trails were covered with loads of white stuff.
| It was a sunny clear day in Tillsonburg. | Five hours later we were in another world! |
